The township budget is an estimate of revenue and expenses for one year, from January 1 to December 31. The budget reflects estimated revenue and expenses for various “funds” or bank accounts managed by the board of supervisors.
Under 1933 Act 69, Article XVI, Section 1601, the board of supervisors “adopt(s) the final budget not later then the thirty-first day of December” to become effective for the following year. The budget may be amended up until February 15.
Since the last Board of Supervisors meeting each year is on the first Monday in December, the budget is generally adopted at that meeting. The proposed budget is developed by the November meeting and posted for public comment as required.
